Music video references from our steal-o-matic |
One of the things that we have been inspired to do is to use extreme close ups of the singer and incorporate excessive hand movements into the shots. We have also been hugely influenced by the overwhelming amount of props that were used in the music videos and are determined to portray a convincing narrative through the use of props and costumes.
To the left, you can see the list of music videos that we used for reference in our steal-o-matic.
Below, are brief explanations as to why we chose to use the clips.
We got feedback from our teachers as soon as we finished our Steal-o-matic.
- There was very good cutting to the beat from shot to shot
- A very good range of shot types
- The CUs that we used were good and appropriate
- Important to have beauty shots in a music video
- Good examples of direct address to the camera
- A good mix of narrative and performance
- Need to focus on conceptual aspect
- Could use different lighting as well as props to differentiate different set-ups
The Steal-o-matic was particularly useful to use because we had not previously taken into account camera movements. Camera movement was clearly evident in our references and this reminded us that we needed to integrate movement into our planning. We also have a solid basis for our music video and know what visuals work well with the lyrics. Even though our clips were prompted by the lyrics, the sequence flowed well and I am pleased with the end product.
