1. "Don't Let Me Down" by Chainsmokers ft. Daya
I suggested the song to my group members on our whatsapp group |
Positives:
- The song is an EDM song with a strong beat that would be easy to cut to
- The EDM genre is very popular in the UK as well as worldwide and so would be good to take advantage of
- Lyrics are expressive and simple. We could convey the emotions and meanings behind them
Negatives:
- The song is has over 350 million views on Youtube
- It would be hard for us to come up with a concept that does not overlap with the existing music video because the visuals from the lyric video are quite impressive
2. "Addicted to a Memory" by Zedd ft. Bahari
Here we are discussing the song during our meeting |
Positives:
- There is no existing music video for this track so we could use our imagination
- The song has an ethereal vibe that would be interesting to try to express. We could potentially do a visually stimulating conceptual video
Negatives:
- The song is too long (5 minutes) and we would not be able to cut it down to 3 minutes without it sounding weird and unfinished
- The dubstep breakdown would be hard to pull off without looking amateurish
- Lack of vocals and lyrics mean that we will have to interepret it in our own way
- It becomes very repetitive, which might not sustain the audience's interests
3. "Sit Still Look Pretty" by Daya
Positives
- Lyrics are good for creating imagery and intertextual reference e.g. Barbie world, picket fences and trophy wives
- Beat is strong and easy to cut to
- Song is simple and addictive - will appeal to our target audience
Negatives
- The song can get repetitive, especially at around the 1:57 mark
- Depending on the visuals, the song can be considered to be supporting feminism. This may alienate male audiences and defies the point of aiming for the mass audiences
